LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring 11-year-old Webster, New York, native
Ricky Desens, for placing first at the 73rd All-American Soap Box Derby

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
11-year-old Webster, New York, native Ricky Desens, for placing first at
the 73rd All-American Soap Box Derby; and
WHEREAS, In his first year, Ricky Desens won the rally stock World
Championship race at the All-American Soap Box Derby races in Akron,
Ohio, on Saturday, July 24, 2010; winning the rally stock race at 29.42
seconds, his win is the Rochester area's seventh world championship at
Akron, and its fifth in the last 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Ricky Desens rolled to victory, earning a trophy that is
almost as tall as he is; he is going into sixth grade at Webster's
Willink Middle School in the fall, and plans to keep racing derby cars;
and
WHEREAS, A fan of drag racing, Ricky Desens also enjoys boating,
tubing and water skiing, which he does with his dad; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his parents, Rick and Terry,
both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of hard work, pride
and accomplishment, and Ricky Desens has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
11-year-old Webster, New York, native Ricky Desens for placing first at
the 73rd All-American Soap Box Derby; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ricky Desens.
