LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Laurie Windsor upon the occasion of
her designation as the recipient of the Leadership Award at the Shore-
front Club's Annual Awards Dinner Dance on March 26, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend Laurie Windsor, President of the Community Education Council for
District 20 Schools, upon the occasion of her designation as the recipi-
ent of the Leadership Award at the Shorefront Club's Annual Awards
Dinner Dance, to be held at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Brooklyn on March
26, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Bensonhurst, Laurie Windsor attended the
local public schools, P.S. 186, I.S. 96, and New Utrecht High School;
she currently resides in Bath Beach and has served on the Community
Education Council (CEC) for District 20 since 2005; she enjoys visiting
the schools, observing its diverse, outstanding programs and seeing how
the children thrive in them; and
WHEREAS, For the past three years she has been the Chair of the Gifted
and Talented Committee; in the past year she has brought a heightened
focus to students with special education needs and their parents; and
WHEREAS, Having served as the Treasurer of the Community Education
Council for two years, Laurie Windsor was elected to serve as Vice Pres-
ident for the 2007-08 school year; with the resignation of the Presi-
dent, she was overwhelmingly elected to lead the organization into the
future and has been serving ably in that capacity since December 2007;
and
WHEREAS, Recognizing her commitment and expertise, in June 2008,
Laurie Windsor was appointed to also serve as a member of Community
Board 11, which serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend, and is
currently serving on its Youth, Site Screening, and Health/Social
Services Committees; and
WHEREAS, For the last four years, Laurie Windsor has also served as
President of the Bay Ridge Chapter of the Deborah Hospital Foundation;
the chapter hosts fundraising events to raise money for the Deborah
Heart and Lung Hospital in New Jersey, which houses a special unit,
Children of the World, for pediatric patients from all over the world
who come for life saving heart surgeries and other services, always
provided at no cost, even to those without health insurance; and
WHEREAS, Laurie Windsor is, in addition, an active member of St.
John's Episcopal Church in Bay Ridge, where she has been the
treasurer/bookkeeper for more than 10 years and participates in a varie-
ty of fundraising events and other programs; and
WHEREAS, With Laurie Windsor throughout have been her husband, Andrew,
and their three children, Andrew, Lauren and Matthew, all of whom are
proud to be part of her life and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Laurie Windsor has distinguished herself in her community and
truly merits the recognition of this Legislative Body; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Laurie Windsor upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of the Leadership Award at the Shorefront Club's Annual Awards
Dinner Dance on March 26, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laurie Windsor.
