LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Eagle Elementary School Odyssey of
the Mind Team upon the occasion of taking first place in their division
at the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Competition, on March 23, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in educational
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Eagle Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion
of winning the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Competition, which was
held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Binghamton University; and
WHEREAS, Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program
that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from
kindergarten through college; the competition encourages utilizing indi-
vidual expression, imaginative thinking and team building in order to
achieve solutions for a wide variety of problems; and
WHEREAS, The Eagle Elementary School fifth-graders competed in Problem
3: ARTchitecture, The Musical; in this problem, the students had to
create and present an original performance that included a replica of a
documented architectural structure built between 1,000 AD and 1,600 AD,
and two songs accompanied by some type of choreographed movement; and
WHEREAS, By winning first place in their division out of 16 schools
competing on the same problem, this outstanding team from Eagle Elemen-
tary School has qualified to advance to the Odyssey of the Mind World
Finals at Michigan State University where they will compete against
teams from across the United States as well as from 25 countries around
the world; and
WHEREAS, The triumphant Eagle Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind
team members are Julia Buckle, Evelyn Coates, Alexi Hull, Grace McGrath
and Emily Smith; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers, fami-
ly and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Eagle Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the
occasion of taking first place in their division at the New York State
Odyssey of the Mind Competition, and offer them its best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Eagle Elementary School Odyssey of the
Mind Team.
