LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the New York State School Music Asso-
ciation upon the occasion of the celebration of Music in Our Schools
Month 2013

WHEREAS, The arts are the building blocks of civilization; they are
central to human expression; they enlighten us and inspire the imagina-
tion; educational institutions, individuals, organizations, and events
which further such worthy purposes richly merit the recognition and
appreciation of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the New York
State School Music Association (NYSSMA) upon the occasion of the 2013
celebration of Music in Our Schools Month and the celebration of
NYSSMA's 81st year of service to the music students of New York State;
and
WHEREAS, Beginning on March 4, 2013, music students from across the
state will perform in Albany at 11:30 a.m. throughout the month in cele-
bration of Music in Our Schools Month and, on the evening of March 4,
NYSSMA will present its Annual Concert, featuring its All State Vocal
and Instrumental Jazz Ensembles, this year, honoring the memory of
Joseph R. Sugar who, in 1972, founded Music in Our Schools Month; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to recognize NYSSMA's proud
and accomplished history and to pay tribute to its members, past and
present, for their contributions to their profession, to music students,
and to music education throughout New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the New York State School Music Association upon the occasion of
the 2013 celebration of Music in Our Schools Month and its celebration
of its 81st year of service to the music students of New York State; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York State School Music Association.
