LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jacob Sharoff posthumously upon the
occasion of his induction into the Monticello Central School District
Hall of Distinction on November 2, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service were an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jacob Sharoff posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into the
Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction, to be celebrated
at its 2nd Annual Induction Ceremony on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the
Arnold Packer Hughes Auditorium, Monticello High School, Monticello, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor highly successful graduates, former students and
former employees who have achieved distinction, outstanding accomplish-
ment, or have made a significant contribution within their school, fami-
ly, career, community and/or personal life; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Sharoff, affectionately known as Jack, was a Monticello
High School Alumnus, Class of 1931; and
WHEREAS, A humble, principled, dedicated, fair and scrupulously honest
man, Jacob "Jack" Sharoff served as Monticello Chief of Police from 1938
to 1968; he displayed an unwavering commitment to his beloved community,
and considered himself never off duty; and
WHEREAS, With a true passion for children, Jacob "Jack" Sharoff found-
ed a youth arm of the police department known as the "Junior Police";
and
WHEREAS, Jacob "Jack" Sharoff was a lifelong Boy Scout, and served for
many years on the Executive Committee of the Hudson Delaware Council of
Boy Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was presented with the Silver Beaver Award
for his dedication to Scouting; this council-level distinguished service
award of the Boy Scouts of America is given to those who implement the
Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-
sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably served, Jacob "Jack"
Sharoff had an unwavering dedication to Monticello and was a member of
many organizations; among his many other accomplishments, he served
numerous terms on the Monticello Village Board of Trustees and the Town
of Thompson Council; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Jacob "Jack" Sharoff displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhanced the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jacob Sharoff posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into
the Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction on November
2, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jacob Sharoff.
