State Senator James Skoufis hands out food ahead of Thanksgiving

MIDDLETOWN- Nearly 250 Orange County families received Thanksgiving meals last week thanks to a partnership led by State Senator James Skoufis (D-Cornwall).  His office joined United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, the Feeding Orange County Coalition, the Salvation Army of Middletown, TOUCH NY, and the Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen to distribute turkeys, hams, produce, and non-perishables at the Salvation Army Community Center in Middletown.

The effort followed a community canned-goods drive at the Senator’s Cornwall and Middletown offices. Local businesses and organizations—including Stop and Shop, Hannaford, Adams Fairacre Farms, the Regional Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Liberty Church, and the Middletown YMCA—donated items for the holiday distribution.

“All of our neighbors deserve the opportunity to enjoy a warm meal during the holiday season,” Skoufis said.

Earlier in the month, Skoufis and his staff also volunteered at the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. The meal giveaway and canned-goods drive are annual initiatives of the Senator’s office.
