New York Senate honors Staten Island Medal of Honor recipient Michael Ollis
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York State Senate adopted a resolution March 23 honoring Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis of New Dorp, who posthumously received the Congressional Medal of Honor and was inducted into the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes.
Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat who represents the North Shore and South Brooklyn, introduced the resolution and delivered a speech on the Senate floor celebrating Ollis’s life. His parents, Bob and Linda Ollis, attended the ceremony. Assemblyman Michael Tannousis, a Republican who represents the East Shore and South Brooklyn, introduced a companion resolution in the state Assembly.
“It was truly an honor to recognize Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis and his parents on the Senate floor,” Scarcella-Spanton said. “His story serves as a powerful reminder of the immense responsibilities our troops undertake in service to our country.”
