Some Democrats and Republicans want to change that. State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and Assemblymember Chris Eachus are sponsoring a bill that would remove restrictions on who can sell pepper spray and permit the product to be shipped statewide. Today’s Siena Research Institute poll showed 59 percent of voters support that effort.

“New Yorkers support common sense ways to protect themselves, and lifting barriers to purchase pepper spray will do just that,” Scarcella-Spanton said.
