STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island officials are calling on Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Department of Sanitation to prioritize snow removal along the borough’s annual St. Patrick’s Parade route in West Brighton before the march on Sunday.

In a letter to Mamdani and Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan signed by a host of politicians in both parties, the officials acknowledged that road safety for all Staten Island residents should remain the Department of Sanitation’s priority. However, they said, Forest Avenue remains covered in snow piles, and they requested the city deploy snow melters and additional resources to fully clear the parade route.

The letter was signed by state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat who represents the North Shore and South Brooklyn; District Attorney Michael E. McMahon; state Sen. Andrew Lanza, a Republican who represents the South Shore and Mid-Island; Assemblymember Sam Pirozzolo, a Republican who represents Mid-Island; and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican who represents Staten Island and south Brooklyn.

The letter reads in part:

“I strongly urge the City to deploy snow melters and any additional resources to fully clear Forest Avenue along the parade route. Ensuring that the streets are properly treated will help guarantee the safety of participants, marching bands, and parade floats, and will allow the day to proceed without disruption.”
