Academic and Financial Improvement Plan Presented to State Officials
New York State Education Department Commissioner Dr. Betty A. Rosa, New York Senators Jamaal Bailey & Shelley Mayer, along with Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow and Regent Frances Wills, met with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Demario Strickland at the Board of Education Friday morning to discuss the state’s monitoring of the Mount Vernon City School District.
The purpose of this visit was to review New York State Monitor Dr. Kimberly Young Wilkins’ findings while developing her academic and financial improvement plan for the District through the 2029-30 school year. You can read the academic and financial improvement plan by clicking here.
During the meeting, the group also discussed what resources are needed to help the District attain a positive trajectory. The group identified a need for support around capital improvements for buildings. Dr. Strickland is preparing to present legislative priorities to lawmakers in Albany on behalf of the District this week.
