Today, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) announced he has sent a letter to the NYS Public Service Commission regarding its recent decision to revoke Charter’s license to operate in New York. Last week, the NYS Public Service Commission deemed Charter Communications has failed in its agreed-upon build-out promises, leading to disputes between the telecoms company and the state.

“Many families who were depending on Charter to deliver broadband are now questioning whether or not they will be left in the dark with regard to high-speed internet,” said Sen. Ortt. “I support the state’s desire to hold Charter accountable but I also worry about the underserved communities who are no closer to receiving the high-speed internet they were promised."

Combined, Niagara and Orleans Counties were scheduled to receive just over $230,000 in funding from the New York State Broadband Program Office, relying heavily upon the terms of Charter’s proposed build-out.

“Since all of the funds included in the New NY Broadband Program have already been awarded, the revocation of Charter’s license to operate spells trouble for those residents of Niagara and Orleans who were in Charter’s proposed build-out network,” said Sen. Ortt.
