Senator Ryan Highlights State Funding to Expand Animal Shelter Capacity in Oswego County
May 27, 2026
State Senator Christopher J. Ryan (SD-50) today highlighted state funding awarded to the Town of Schroeppel to help expand local animal shelter capacity in Oswego County.
The Town of Schroeppel will receive $132,341.44 to increase shelter capacity, helping improve care for animals in need while supporting future adoptions and long-term shelter operations.
“This funding comes at a critically important time for Oswego County,” said Senator Ryan. “In recent months, our community has seen several heartbreaking cases involving animal neglect and cruelty that have overwhelmed local shelters, rescue organizations and volunteers. The people stepping up to care for these animals are doing extraordinary work, but they need the facilities and capacity to meet these growing challenges. This investment will help ensure more animals can be rescued, treated and ultimately placed in safe, loving homes.”
The funding is part of the latest round of the Companion Animal Capital Projects Fund, which supports construction, renovation and expansion projects that improve animal care and increase adoption opportunities at shelters across New York State. The program is administered by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
Governor Kathy Hochul previously announced nearly $10 million in awards to 31 animal care organizations statewide through the program’s eighth funding round.
