Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C-Ballston Lake) today announced a $100,000 New York State grant he secured to help build the new Deanna Marie Rivers Batting Cages at the Miss Shen Softball Field at the Clifton Common in Clifton Park.
The Deanna Marie Rivers Batting Cages were built as a lasting remembrance of Shenendehowa High School Student Deanna Rivers who with Christopher Stewart, were tragically killed in 2012 on the Northway by a drunk, drugged, and serial dangerous driver. Rivers was a standout varsity softball player and played for many years with Miss Shen Softball.
Tedisco joined the Rivers family, Clifton Park Supervisor Phil Barrett, former Councilman Anthony Morelli, and scores of current Miss Shen Softball players to help cut the ribbon and officially dedicate the new sports facility.
“Deanna Rivers was truly a bright light for her family, friends and our entire community who with Christopher Stewart tragically lost their lives in 2012. I’ve gotten to know the Rivers family over the years and seen first-hand their continued dedication to keeping Deanna’s memory alive, her love and enthusiasm for softball, and ensure what happened to their family never happens to another family. I was honored to secure this $100,000 New York State grant and return our tax dollars back to the 44th Senate District to partner with the Town of Clifton Park, who provided the remainder of the funding, to help make the Deanna Marie Rivers Batting Cages a reality and inspire future generations of girls to play ball,” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
Tedisco previously secured a $100,000 state grant to build the Christohpher F. Stewart Media Box at the Shenendehowa High School football stadium as an everlasting tribute to the late co-captain of the Shen Football Team.
