Franklin Square, N.Y. — Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick recognized Dr. John Trotta, Assistant Principal of Polk Street School, for being named the 2026 New York State Elementary School Assistant Principal of the Year.

Dr. Trotta has served as both a teacher and administrator in the Franklin Square School District for over a decade. During that time, he has developed numerous initiatives aimed at helping students build problem-solving skills and fostering independence as they progress through their education. He has also prioritized keeping the community connected, including a program that invites recent high school graduates who once attended Polk Street School back to the school to mentor and connect with current students.

“Teachers and administrators have the important job of not only looking after our children, but shaping their futures through the care and dedication they bring every day. Dr. Trotta is the perfect example of someone who is doing just that. I am so proud to have such an outstanding administrator in my district, one who parents can confidently entrust with their children each and every day.
