Improvements include new workstations, counter tops and storage for public-facing area

Ossining, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today the Village of Ossining Police Department has completed renovations at its headquarters on Spring Street, which included a complete overhauling of its police desk / communications area, thanks to a $100,000 state grant that he was able to secure for the police department.

“Our local municipalities and first responders continue to face challenges when it comes to arranging the finances for new equipment and renovations of facilities,” said Harckham. “The Ossining Police Department recognized that the police desk, which is its first point of contact with the public, needed a substantial updating, and I was pleased to work with the village and police department to provide state funding to assist with this project.”

The Ossining Birdsall-Fagan Police / Court Facility was built and opened in 2000. The desk area was installed when the building was originally outfitted as a police department and has not been updated since then.

For the renovations of the police desk / communications area, all the counter tops and storage cabinets were replaced, as were all the workstations and flooring. The sit-stand Console Systems that make up each workstation can be raised or lowered so that officers can stand or be seated. The consoles also include individual climate controls so that each officer can make his or her workspace more suitable to individual needs.

The entire renovation project cost $101,028.31.

Ossining Mayor Rika Levin said, “We extend our sincere thanks to Senator Harckham for his continued investment in our community and his commitment to our infrastructure. Funding the modern overhaul of our police desk and communications center allows us to protect our public assets. It's a major step forward for public safety in Ossining.”

Ossining Police Chief Aaron Zimmerman said, “I want to express my sincere thanks to Senator Harckham for helping us secure this funding. The overhaul of our police desk and communications area directly impacts our daily operations, giving our dispatchers and officers the reliable setup they need to handle calls and coordinate responses effectively. We are incredibly grateful for the Senator's support in keeping our headquarters running smoothly.”

The renovations at the Birdsall-Fagan Police / Court Facility in Ossining were funded through the state’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) program. Since taking office in 2019, Harckham has secured over $40 million in capital grants for the towns, cities and villages across Senate District 40 through CREST, the Local Community Assistance Program (LOCAP) and State Aid to Municipalities (SAM) grants, including over $11 million for first responders.
