New York State Senator Rhoads Hosts Second Annual Charity Volleyball Tournament at Jones Beach
July 1, 2026
On June 28, New York State Senator Steve Rhoads hosted his Second Annual 4-on-4 Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Jones Beach volleyball courts, bringing together community members of all ages for an evening of friendly competition while supporting a worthy local cause.
The tournament featured sixteen teams, each sporting creative matching uniforms, as players and spectators enjoyed a fun-filled evening on the beach. Lenox Hill generously provided snacks and water for participants and attendees throughout the event.
In addition to the spirited competition, the event served as a successful community food drive. Thanks to the generosity of players and spectators, two full boxes of nonperishable food donations were collected to benefit the Bellmore-Merrick Community Cupboard, helping stock its shelves and support local families facing food insecurity during the summer months.
"It was incredible to see our community come together for a great evening of volleyball while making a real difference for our neighbors in need," said Senator Steve Rhoads. "This tournament is about more than competition—it's about giving back and supporting families right here in our community. I want to thank everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and helped make this year's event such a tremendous success."
Senator Rhoads also recognized the efforts of his intern, Matthew Rowe, who spearheaded the initiative and played a key role in organizing the successful tournament and coordinating the community food drive.
Senator Rhoads congratulated tournament champions Luke Peckham, Sebastian Ling, Anthony Posanti, and Tommy Dillon on their impressive victory.
Mr. Arlin, Executive Director of Alternative Education in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, expressed his appreciation for the donations.
"The Community Cupboard, serving families with food insecurity in the Bellmores and Merricks, has now been in operation for 10 years. We provide food twice per month for 30-45 families with food insecurity in our neighborhood. This donation will help us through our slowest time during the year for donations, the summer. Thank you to Senator Rhoads and his team for their generosity and support in keeping our cupboard shelves full!"
Senator Rhoads thanked everyone who participated and donated, noting that the event's success reflects the generosity and strong community spirit of the residents of the 5th Senate District. He looks forward to continuing this tradition and hosting the 3rd Annual Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament next year.
