Senator Attends Fundraiser for Earthquake Victims in Turkey
November 23, 2011
Senator Stewart-Cousins attended a fundraiser at the Westchester Turkish Cultural Center benefitting victims of the recent earthquakes in Van, Turkey. On October 23 a magnitude 7.2 tremor hit the province of Van in Eastern Turkey, reportedly killing 600 people. And just weeks later a magnitude 5.7 aftershock struck the same region. The November 12 fundraiser featured live music and a bake sale. All proceeds benefitted the Helping Hands Relief Foundation, which helps victims around the world respond to natural disasters. If you are interested in donating, visit the Westchester Turkish Cultural Center website for more information.
