National Armed Forces Day
Andrea Stewart-Cousins
May 16, 2015
"Today is National Armed Forces Day, an opportunity to stand together in thanking and celebrating the brave men and women committed to protecting American values and defending our freedom. I urge all New Yorkers to recognize the dedication and selflessness our service members demonstrate each and every day.
First celebrated in 1950, National Armed Forces Day celebrates those who serve in all of the U.S. military branches, and showcases their skills, accomplishments, and readiness. President Harry S. Truman proclaimed the first Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950.
It is my honor to recognize and thank the men and women of our armed forces and I hope all New Yorkers will join me in celebrating National Armed Forces Day."
