(Middletown, NY)-State Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) issued the following statement on the upcoming 26th anniversary of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990. The law prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, schools, and public and private entities that are open to the public.

“The enactment of the ADA was an important moment in the movement for a better quality of life for individuals with disabilities,” said Bonacic. “In most aspects of civic and community life -- education, housing, access to public venues, healthcare, even voting -- the ADA has brought about unprecedented improvements in the quality of life for people with disabilities. As an elected official, I am committed to ensuring that the ideals of the ADA are continuously being realized.”
