(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) presented City of Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano with a ceremonial pen certificate, yesterday at City Hall, commemorating the signing into law of legislation that was requested by the Mayor. The law, Chapter 458 of the laws of 2016, allows cities in Orange County the ability to opt-out of a county law permitting the sale and possession of fireworks. After Orange County passed a local law in 2015 legalizing the use of fireworks, the City of Middletown saw an increase in complaints to local police. The legislation was requested by Mayor DeStefano as a way to help with the quality of life issues related to the fireworks.
