STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In an effort to reduce the risk of drink spiking during Staten Island St. Patrick’s Parade festivities, bars along Forest Avenue tested a new pilot program offering customers single‑use covers for their beverages.

In partnering with NightCapIt, a business that sells drink-spiking prevention products, state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton brought 1,500 single-use drink covers to six participating bars along the parade route.

“Safety must always be at the forefront of any large-scale event, and I was glad to bring stakeholders together to guarantee a safe parade day,” Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat representing the North Shore and parts of Brooklyn, said. “The Staten Island St. Patrick’s Parade is a day filled with celebration and this initiative adds an extra layer of protection to give people peace of mind on a joyous occasion. I am proud to pilot this initiative with NightCapIt, the Forest Avenue BID, and local businesses to put Staten Island on the forefront of safety innovation.”

“Events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade not only bring our community together in celebration, but they also create meaningful opportunities for our small businesses to demonstrate their commitment to the safety and well-being of their patrons,” said Nina Flores, executive director of the Forest Avenue BID. “[We were] proud to donate these drink covers as part of the NightCap initiative. We thank Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and NightCap for leading this important effort.”
