Irish Famine memorials dedicated on Staten Island as Global Famine Way reaches U.S.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nearly two centuries after Irish immigrants fleeing the Great Famine arrived on Staten Island, their journey was commemorated Sunday with the dedication of two memorials in St. George.
Others in attendance included Staten Island District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, Assemblyman Charles Fall and representatives for Gov. Kathy Hochul and state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton.
