Nearly 1,000 Staten Island families get free school supplies in massive giveaway

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton partnered with 50 organizations to distribute free backpacks and school supplies to nearly 1,000 families at a back-to-school giveaway on Staten Island ahead of the 2026-2027 school year.
“We were able to provide nearly one thousand families with backpacks and all the supplies they need to succeed, thanks to the generosity of our incredible partners,” said Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat representing the North Shore and South Brooklyn. “Every student deserves to feel confident and ready to take on the world on the first day of school, and I’m proud to have set them up for success with the help of many organizations and vendors.”
