On Sunday, May 23, 2011, NYS Senator Eric Adams united with elected officials, rent regulation reform advocates and tenants to urge Governor Cuomo to oppose the special interests groups by renewing the rent laws, set to expire on June 15, 2011. Rent regulation laws currently protect the rights of millions of New York State tenants by guaranteeing them lease renewals and stable rent increases. If these rent laws are not renewed, thousands of New Yorkers will be subjected to unaffordable rent costs and lack of protection from predatory landlords. Rally participants will join hands and form a human chain around the rent regulated building as a sign of solidarity, so that others are aware of the expiring rent regulation laws. Holding the Governor accountable to extend and strengthen the rent stabilization laws will be the main focus of the rally.
