If you, or someone you know, has a concern about breast cancer, the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is a wonderful service to help find answers.
More than 100 highly trained volunteers staff the hotline and offer emotional support, information and referrals. These are people who have “been there.” There is no charge for any of the services, which Adelphi has been providing for 32 years. The toll-free number is 1-800-877-8077.
This year, the Legislature and Governor enacted a law that requires patients be notified in writing of a discovery of dense breast tissue during a mammogram, what that means, followed by a discussion about the possible need for additional screening. A second law also enacted this year requires health insurers to cover breast reconstruction surgery after a partial mastectomy.
I was pleased to support both laws knowing how much they mean to those affected and their families.
