Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently participated in the 2012 Greater New York Lymphomathon, where hundreds walked to raise critical funds for lymphoma research and education. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that occurs when white blood cells that help protect the body from infection and disease begin behaving abnormally.

     Sponsored by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. Hundreds of walkers participated in the event.

     Senator Fuschillo thanked the walkers for their efforts in raising over $175,000 for lymphoma research and services for individuals with lymphoma and their families.

     "Lymphoma continues to affect many families across Long Island. Whether they are lymphoma survivors, have a loved one or friend who was diagnosed with lymphoma, or are supporting someone who does, each of the hundreds of walkers who participated in this event has been affected by this disease. Their efforts will go a long way towards finding a cure for lymphoma and helping improve the lives of lymphoma patients and their families. I appreciated the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to all the walkers and support this very worthy cause,” said Senator Fuschillo.
