The NYC Department of Finance has extended the deadline for property owners who suffered severe damage to their property by Hurricane Sandy to submit the "Property Damage Reporting Application". Property owners must submit applications to the Department of Finance know by February 15th if they want Finance to consider it in time for the property assessment used to determine property taxes for the 2013-2014 tax year. Property owners should submit the survey if: 1) their buildings are leaning, have collapsed, or are off the foundation; 2) the walls have buckled; or 3) the basement, roof, boiler, elevator, transformer, or air conditioning have been destroyed. Applications can be picked up at my office, found at www.nyc.gov/html/hra/downloads/pdf/hradocs/PropertyDamageReportApp.pdf or submitted online at https://dofpropertydamage.cityofnewyork.us/
