New York State Senator Liz Krueger sent the following letter to Empire State Development President and CEO Kenneth Adams late yesterday, urging ESDC to end the use of taxpayer funds to support producers of dangerous assault weapons.
A review from the New York World and the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting published this week found that "New York is one of eight states known to be providing financial support to the semiautomatic weapon industry, making it second only to Massachusetts in the size of its aid."
While Sen. Krueger supports responsible efforts at encouraging economic development and creating jobs, subsidizing an industry whose business is manufacturing and distributing mass-killing machines in the civilian market is a socially irresponsible use of taxpayer money that cannot be justified.
