Over 200 Pounds of Expired and Unwanted Medications Collected for Safe Disposal

     Over 100 residents safely disposed of approximately 200 hundred pounds of expired and unused medications at New Hyde Park Memorial High School through a “Shed the Meds” program sponsored by Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola), County Executive Ed Mangano, and Legislator Rich Nicolello.

     The “Shed the Meds” program enabled residents to safely and conveniently dispose of their expired or unused medications. Residents were able to drive up, drop off their expired or unwanted medications, and drive away. All medications collected through the program were taken by the Nassau County Police Department for safe disposal. The Department partnered with Senator Martins, County Executive Mangano, and Legislator Nicolello in offering this service to residents.

     “I’m so pleased that so many people took advantage of this service,” said Senator Martins. “Safely disposing of medications keeps them from polluting the waterways and out of the wrong hands. This was a very successful program and I thank everyone who participated.”

     Residents who were unable to attend the program but have medications they’d like to safely dispose of can do so at their local Nassau County Police Department precinct.
