Third Avenue Bus Set to Return This Summer

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a member of the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Capital Review Board, has issued the following statement regarding the NYC Transit Authority’s planned Summer 2014 reinstatement of the B 37:

“Today we celebrate a long, hard fought transportation victory for our community. The people who were served by the B 37 bus route have waited three years for this bus to return. The rallies, the petitions, and the activism worked, and the announcement we have all been waiting for has finally been made.

There is no doubt in my mind that this route should have never been eliminated to begin with, as it served as a vital connection within a number of Brooklyn neighborhoods. So many relied on the Third Avenue bus for work, shopping and school travel. For our seniors and disabled, this too is a great news, for the train stations in our community are not handicapped accessible.

I thank my many partners whose collective efforts, including Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis and other legislative colleagues, as well as the Guild for Exceptional Children, Lutheran Medical Center, UPROSE and all members of the Restore the B 37 Coalition. We did it because we never gave up.”

The B 37 bus is set to return to service on Sunday, June 29th and will terminate at the Barclays Center.
