Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), in response to the recent rash of prescription drug overdoses in his district, is announcing his vote to support S. 2941 that will add practitioner, and pharmacist, to the law that charges individuals with a Class B Felony who falsely fill controlled substance prescriptions.

Senator Golden recently hosted a town hall meeting with representatives from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, the Dynamite Youth Coalition, and the New York City Police Department. A significant number of deaths and overdoses have been reported throughout the Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights sections of Golden’s district over the past year.

“This legislation, if approved by the State Assembly, will build upon our efforts to curb drug abuse included in the I-STOP legislation. We must continue to be proactive in the war on prescription drugs, and heroin, so that we can save lives. Drugs continue to destroy families and threaten the quality of life of our neighborhoods. This legislation will send a direct message to medical personnel, and pharmacists, that we will not tolerate the false distribution of medication and prescriptions,” said Senator Marty Golden.

The bill was sent to the Assembly.
