Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), today is calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to solidify New York State’s commitment to those who have fallen ill in the wake of the recovery efforts at Ground Zero, and sign legislation, S7628-A/A9562-A, (GOLDEN/ABBATE) into law.

S7628-A/A9562-A, approved by both houses of the New York State Legislature, would amend State law governing injuries and illnesses suffered due to participation in the rescue, recovery and cleanup in the wake of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. This legislation would reopen the notice of participation, and extend the deadline in which to file as having a World Trade Center related condition, for those yet to submit an application.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “The World Trade Center Disability Law has played a significant role in addressing the health and benefits of those who responded on New York’s darkest of days and thereafter. We are aware that there are still more who qualify, yet have not applied, and they should have every opportunity to register. The tragedy at the World Trade Center showed us the best in our emergency services, unions, and citizens, and we need to now show them they we have not forgotten their sacrifice.”

Senator Golden yesterday hosted two community memorials to mark the 13th Anniversary of September 11th, 2001. Mr. Golden also participated in a ceremony held at the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
