Housing and financial security legislative priorities also to be announced

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will join representatives of the Council of Senior Centers and Services, Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, and other officials at a press conference Friday, March 14, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., at the Narrows Moose Lodge Senior Center located at 7711-18th Avenue in Brooklyn, calling for an increase in funding for services, an increase in the SCRIE income eligibility limit, and passage of legislation that would take action against financial elder abuse.  

Approximately 75 senior citizens will be in attendance to join the calls for Governor Andrew Cuomo to include an additional $26 million in funding for the Community Services for the Elderly Program. The urgency of this funding request is in the wake of reports indicating that 7,000 older New Yorkers are on a waiting list for a variety of services such as Meals on Wheels, Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly, and case management assistance. 

The press conference will also feature commentary on the need for the passage of legislation to increase the SCRIE Income Eligibility (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption), which was last increased in 2009.  Advocates and officials will also vow to make legislation that would increase protections guarding the financials of aging New Yorkers a priority.
