(Middletown, NY)- Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) is pleased to announce that boaters in New York can now take their safety courses online. In 2013, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law that required anyone born on or after May 1, 1996, to have completed a boating safety course before operating a motorboat. Prior to the online safety courses, boaters seeking a safety certification had to successfully complete an eight-hour course in a classroom setting.
“The Hudson Valley and Catskills are home some of the best boating and outdoor recreation in New York State,” said Bonacic. “This announcement will make it easier for young and new boaters to take advantage of all of New York’s waterways.”
Online course fees are set by course providers and can be found on the NY State Parks Preservation website at http://nysparks.com/recreation/boating/.
