Brooklyn– State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today has issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s proposed cuts to the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) program:

“New York City remains a top target for terrorist attacks. The President’s proposed cuts to our anti-terror funding is irresponsible, shortsighted and an insult to all New Yorkers. Considering the recent domestic attacks here and abroad, the President should instead increase our funding to ensure the safety and security of our City. We deserve the necessary money so that our police precincts, fire department and first responders have all the tools and equipment required to thwart any future attacks.”

New York stands to lose half of its $180 million dollars for its counter terrorism program. Senator Golden, a former New York City police officer, is a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs.
