In an effort to increase public safety, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 in special funding to increase handicapped accessibility, create a new training area and add lounge and office spaces at the Hastings Fire Department.
“Throughout our communities, volunteer fire departments, like the Hastings Fire Department, play the vital role of keeping the public safe from any danger that might arise,” said Senator Ritchie.
“It’s so important that we support our volunteers, and provide them with the resources they need to be ready at a moment’s notice when disaster strikes. Through this funding, the department will be able to make the improvements necessary to enhance training, as well as make changes to its building that will make it more usable for community events and other functions.”
“For decades, the Hastings Fire Department and its volunteers have answered the call to keep our community safe,” said Hastings Fire Department President Steve Stevenson.
“Thanks to the assistance secured by Senator Ritchie, we will be able to continue this tradition of protecting the public. We are grateful she has recognized not only how critical the services we provide are, but also the importance of the department as a center of our local community.”
Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
