Senator Larkin's Ward Voting Bill Passes Senate
June 17, 2016
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th District) passed legislation today that would permit union free and central school districts to establish school election wards. This legislation will restrict the election of candidates to the board of education to the particular election district where those candidates and the voters of that particular district reside.
“I am pleased to announce that my legislation which would authorize the voters of central school districts and union free school districts to approve a ward voting system for the purposes of school board elections passed the New York Senate today,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “This important piece of legislation seeks to ensure that one area of a school district cannot be overrepresented or underrepresented on a school board. I greatly appreciate my Senate colleagues support in passing this legislation and urge the Assembly to follow suit.”
This legislation now moves to the Assembly for consideration.
