State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, said, “The State of New York and the lower Hudson Valley mourn the passing of Regent Judith Johnson. A stalwart for public education and educational equity, Regent Johnson’s contributions to public education statewide and nationally are immeasurable. She was a forward thinker, never hesitating to question existing policies and standards in search of a better way. Regent Johnson believed in building partnerships and had the trust and respect of all of those who worked with her. For me personally, she was a mentor and guide, and I will miss her greatly. My thoughts are with her family.”
