HYDE PARK, NY—Senator Sue Serino today is expressing outrage over news that the Legislature has set an official hearing date to evaluate constitutional provisions impacting redistricting in 2022, but has continuously failed to set a date to address the immediate crisis unfolding in New York’s nursing homes. 

“Putting politics over people, especially during a pandemic is a new low,” said Senator Sue Serino. “To set a hearing on any topic that does not involve immediately taking a hard look at the state’s response to the crisis in our nursing homes is shameful. Talking about holding a hearing without ever setting a date is not enough. Every day that passes leaves more and more New Yorkers vulnerable. These are parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings, veterans—valued members of our community—and the state has to do better by them immediately.”

Senator Serino has been leading the call for an independent investigation into the state’s handing of the pandemic within nursing homes assisted living and adult care facilities. After months of inaction, the Legislature has finally signaled a willingness to hold a hearing on this critically important topic, but has yet to set an official date.
