Senator Pam Helming announced that U.S. Navy Master Chief Mark Wilmot of Aurora has been selected as the 54^th District inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame for 2021. Wilmot was honored at a recent meeting of the Cayuga County Legislature by Senator Helming and Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck, who nominated him. 

“Master Chief and Navy SEAL Mark Wilmot truly embodies what it means to be an American hero, serving our nation with distinction and standing as a role model for his fellow veterans and citizens. Congratulations to Mark on his decorated military career and induction into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame in Albany. Thank you to Sheriff Schenck for nominating Mark and sharing his incredible story of service to his country and community,” said Senator Helming.  

Wilmot’s 30-year military career included service as a U.S. Navy SEAL and a Combat Leader in Special Operations, where he planned and executed hundreds of national security initiatives at home and abroad. For his service, Wilmot received a Silver Star, the third-highest military combat decoration awarded to a member of the U.S. Armed Forces; the Purple Heart; four Bronze Star Medals with Valor; two Joint Service Commendation Medals; two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals; and the Army Achievement Medal, among other recognitions.
