Statement from Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt
Robert G. Ortt
January 11, 2022
"In 2014 New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted in favor of a fair and independent redistricting process to keep politicians from hand-picking their voters. As recently as this past November, voters rejected the latest power grab by New York Democrats to stack the odds in their favor and control the redistricting process.
"Today, our conference voted in support of independently drawn districts based on input from thousands of New Yorkers and communities of interest who participated in public hearings throughout the state. Unfortunately, our Democratic colleagues rejected all of the independently drawn maps in an effort to move toward a partisan process that will put their own political survival ahead of the best interests of New Yorkers."
