Senator Addabbo Hosts 2nd Successful Bird Watching Tour in Forest Park
June 9, 2026
Senator Addabbo joined a group of constituents who were excited to go bird watching.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., partnered with the Queens County Bird Club and the Parks Department to host a bird watching tour in Forest Park for his constituents on June 6, 2026. The senator held this event for the first time last year and it was so well attended that he decided to bring it back for a second year.
The walk was led by Ian Resnick, President of the Queens County Bird Club, along with club member, Deborah Alperin. Margaret Rosas, program coordinator with the Parks Department, also attended and gave out complimentary binoculars, light-up wrist bands and stickers.
The participants saw many beautiful birds, along with chipmunks and butterflies. They also absorbed the rich green environment of the park and listened to the various birds chirping and other natural sounds.
“Robins are an extremely successful species,” Resnick noted during the walk. “They’re everywhere.”
In addition to robins, some of the other birds seen on the walk were the Cardinal, Grey Catbird, Northern Flicker, Common Grackle, Woodpecker, Canada Warbler, House Sparrow, Mourning Dove, Wood Thrush, and Northern House Wren.
“My office and I tackle important, serious, daily challenges, each day for our constituents, but it is also meaningful to host a lighthearted, recreational activity for the community’s pure enjoyment, every now and then,” Addabbo said. “Forest Park stands as a true natural gem in our area, and these bird-watching tours offer residents a chance to engage with nature, discover local animals, and champion the protection of green spaces for future generations. I’m grateful to the Queens County Bird Club and the Parks Department for backing this effort.”
