Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted his first Youth Career Trades Fair on April 11, 2026, at Monsignor Mulz Hall, the gymnasium of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Woodhaven. The event sought to connect recent high school graduates and soon-to-be graduates with alternative career path opportunities for those not seeking to attend a traditional college or as a supplement to their academics.
Vendors included trade schools, unions and the military, along with financial aid services. Attendees were given the opportunity to meet recruiters, learn about apprenticeships, and explore financial aid options provided to support their chosen career choices.
“Investing in our youth means helping add to the perception of what is possible beyond four-year degrees and providing students with concrete strategies for success,” Addabbo said. “This trades fair connects graduates with practical training, reliable work, and the support they need to follow their dreams.”
Participants covered fields including automotive repair, electrical work, plumbing, medical and dental assistants, cosmetology and skin care, military service, referee placement, law enforcement, painting, obtaining a CDL License and more.
“I heard a lot of positive feedback from vendors and attendees regarding the productive and meaningful conversations that took place,” Addabbo. “I was pleasantly surprised to hear from youth who said they learned about a particular field that sparked a new interest in a career they had not previously considered. I want to thank all our partners including St. Thomas the Apostle Church for their support of the community.”
