Senator Rob Rolison Statement in Regard to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Lease of a Warehouse in Newburgh
July 2, 2026
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (July 2, 2026) – In response to news that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was selected to lease a warehouse outside Newburgh, N.Y., New York State Senator Rob Rolison issued the following statement:
“I strongly oppose the reported lease of a warehouse facility in Newburgh for use by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
I stand with Orange County leaders, the Town of Newburgh, and the many residents who have made clear that they do not support the establishment of this type of facility in our community. Local officials have gone on record opposing these projects, and those voices deserve to be heard. Any proposal of this magnitude demands transparency, communication, and meaningful input from the local communities most directly impacted.
Our Hudson Valley communities should not be forced to accept the possible conversion of industrial warehouse space into detention or processing facilities that operate like prisons, holding or detention centers. These buildings were never intended for that purpose, and I do not believe this is an appropriate or necessary use for this site.
The people of Orange County and the Town of Newburgh deserve answers, respect, and a seat at the table — not decisions made behind closed doors that fundamentally alter the character of their community.”
