Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. hosted his bi-annual community paper shredding event in Forest Park to promote identity protection and environmental sustainability on September 28, 2025. Simultaneously, clothes and household items were collected by the United War Veterans Council (UWVC) to benefit veterans.

“This shredding event provides people with an easy method to stop identity theft while helping protect the environment,” Addabbo said. “The event provides residents with two essential benefits: it helps them organize their homes and enables them to give away gently used items to military personnel who need them most.”

The Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot served as a collection point for four hours where residents brought their unwanted documents and papers. At the conclusion of the event, some 4,640 pounds of paper which amounts to 2.32 tons was shredded. The UWVC received 555 pounds of fabric and 2,242 pounds of miscellaneous items.

Some attendees took advantage of watching their paper get shredded by looking through a small viewing window on the side of the shredding truck. 

The Senator was also thankful to the volunteers from G-COP/104COP, who managed the traffic flow at the event.
