To promote identity theft prevention and encourage responsible document disposal in an environmentally friendly way, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted a paper shredding event in Forest Park on April 27, 2025.  Participants also had the opportunity to donate clothes and household items to veterans.  

“This shredding event is a simple way to be proactive in preventing identity theft while reducing our environmental footprint,” Addabbo said. “This was also a great opportunity for people de-clutter their homes and give lightly worn clothes and used furniture to service members who could really benefit from it.

During the four-hour event, a steady stream of vehicles lined up around the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot as residents dropped off unwanted papers and documents. In total, nearly five thousand pounds of paper—specifically 4,960 pounds or 2.48 tons—were shredded on-site.  Members of G-COP/104COP helped direct traffic.

The United War Veterans Council was also present collecting clothing, household items and small pieces of furniture. In total they received 1,246 pounds of cloth and 1,550 pounds of other miscellaneous items.
